Veterans Reentry & Peer Navigation Program
Every day, Veterans are released from jail, prison, treatment, or the justice system with big expectations and very little support. At WarriorNOW, we stand in that gap. Our Veterans Reentry & Peer Navigation Program connects justice-involved and high-risk Veterans to trained peer mentors, reentry planning, and pro-social community support—so they can rebuild their lives with dignity, purpose, and hope. warriornow.org+1
Who We Serve
This program is designed for:
- Veterans involved in Veterans Treatment Courts or other problem-solving courts
- Veterans exiting jail or prison and returning to the community
- Veterans on probation, parole, or community supervision
- Veterans transitioning from homelessness, treatment, or active duty
- Families and caregivers who need support walking alongside a justice-involved Veteran
No referral is required to connect with WarriorNOW—but we actively collaborate with courts, jails, JBBS providers, community corrections, and service organizations throughout Colorado. coloradogives.org+1
Reentry is more than “getting out”—it’s rebuilding a life. Our program focuses on four pillars of support:
Peer Navigation & Mentorship
- One-on-one Veteran-to-Veteran mentoring
- Court and appointment support (showing up, checking in, staying accountable)
- Emotional support from someone who’s “been there” and gets military culture
Reentry & Life Skills Support
- Goal-setting and reentry planning (housing, employment, transportation, family)
- Life skills classes such as communication, budgeting, time management, and self-advocacy
- Support integrating into our Nightly Buddy Check, pro-social events, and Trades/Workforce programs where appropriate warriornow.org+1
Community & Resource Connection
- Warm handoffs to community partners (housing, employment, benefits, treatment)
- Navigation of VA and non-VA resources
- Support for families and caregivers who are part of the reentry journey
Accountability With Compassion
- Regular check-ins tailored to court requirements and personal goals
- Encouragement that balances structure, honesty, and empathy
- A team approach: Veteran + Mentor + Court/Agency + Community
How the Reentry Program Works
Inside
the System
- Connection begins while the Veteran is in court, jail, or treatment
- Peer navigators attend staffing/meetings (where allowed) and meet directly with Veterans
- Together, they start building a reentry and goal plan instead of waiting until release
Transition
& Release
- Mentor maintains contact as the Veteran transitions out
- Support with first critical steps: making appointments, attending court, connecting with services, joining Buddy Check
- Focus on stabilizing: housing, transportation, identification, basic needs
Community Reintegration
- Ongoing peer mentorship for as long as the Veteran engages
- Life skills, trades/workforce pathways, and pro-social events to build healthy routines
- Continued collaboration with courts, probation, JBBS, and community partners to reduce recidivism and support long-term success
